Uluwatu Temple

Clifftop temple with breathtaking ocean views & traditional dance

Bali, Indonesia

About This Attraction

A spiritual journey on the edge of the world

Uluwatu Temple, or Pura Luhur Uluwatu, is one of six key temples believed to be Bali's spiritual pillars. It is renowned for its magnificent location, perched on top of a steep cliff approximately 70 meters above sea level. This temple also shares the splendid sunset backdrops as that of Tanah Lot Temple, another important sea temple located in the island's western shores.

Constructed in the 11th century by Javanese sage Empu Kuturan, further established by Dang Hyang Nirartha, a Shaivite monk who is said to have attained Moksha here. The temple is inhabited by monkeys, who are believed to be guardians of the temple. The Kecak Dance performance is held here daily at sunset.
